If you were going to build off of a 18.5-20inch barrel which would you choose.

lets keep the ammo variable to factory loaded lapua say 155 scenars and 170LB for the .308 and factory loaded lapua for the x47.

At this barrel length does the x47 still outperform the .308?

Re: .308 or 6.5x47

Yes.
Out to 1000 yards it has less drop and windage correction. It delivers less energy on target, but if you are shooting paper no worries.
I have both and shoot both. I use the 155scenars in my 308 and I use 139scenars in my 6.5X47.
Really, you can't go wrong with either one. But you will always find more variety and less expensive ammo for the 308.

Re: .308 or 6.5x47

Without access to the special new powders try this:

Run 155's around 2750
Run 170 LB's around 2600

Run 123 Scenars around 2850
Run 130 Berger or JLK's around 2775
Run 140 Berger, 139 Scenar, 142 SMK, 140 Amax around 2700

This is all based on the appx 19" barrel length.

Don't get too focused on the drop characteristics, be sure to take the wind characteristics into effect as well.

Re: .308 or 6.5x47

You must consider for a moment the cost of factory 6.5X47 ammo. From memory it is about 2X the cost of .308 match ammo.

I love the 6.5's but not at $51 a box. I load my own so this isnt an issue.

Re: .308 or 6.5x47

I say 308, blklab has a 18.5 inch KMW that thumps 208amax's, wind hold at 1k was the same as my 260 shooting 140amax's, 9.5 mils-10 mils of elevation on the 308 and 8.1 on my 260.

Are the 208's a roll your own affair? Must be factory ammo and magazine fed.

Re: .308 or 6.5x47

I think the 308 is Ballistically inferior to the 6.5 no matter what the barrel length. The 308 is just such a pig, but it does have the advantage of being cheaper to shoot.

I have been wanting to try these, how fast are you spinning them (also what maker for the tube)? and are you using the RL17? I have heard good thing from a 10T and the RL17, just wanting to get your experiance.
