Re: 308 PALMA loads
I bet bbl length has EVERYTHING to do with it. Keep in mind that true Palma rifles are going to have 30 inch +/- bbls. If you are running say a 26 inch bbl, you are going to lose 100fps, give or take. Last night I tested a load of TAC that according to Sierra generates 2800fps in a 26 inch bbl, out of my practice Palma rifle, it gets 2920fps.....longer bbl. I normally dont shoot TAC in my Palma guns as I use Varget, but I am loaning out my practice gun to one of juniors for his first try at 1000 yard shooting this weekend so I had to come up with something he and his dad have components to load up. So, fyi, TAC will work just fine (43.0grs TAC, 155 Nosler CC, WRA 68 brass, Win LRM primer) I did not test for accuracy, but we will have a better idea after this weekend.
So, if you got a less than 29 or 30 inch bbl, you probably aint going to get the speed we are getting in the Palma guns. If you arent shooting 1000, it wont matter anyway.
And, yall probably know this, but messing around at 47 or so grains of Varget is on da border line and on a hot day, brass can get trashed really quick like. Which sucks when shooting Lapua! :-(
