I bought some rcbs neck dies and I'm not liking how many bushings I will have to use with the differences in brass thickness. Would I be better off to buy the hornady headspace gauges and just bump the necks with my full length dies, that seems simpler. just trying to learn, thanks

The point is to get adequate neck tension without massively overworking the brass. This, however, requires that you have more than just one bushing, as neck thickness will vary from brand to brand and even lot to lot. I always start by determining what the correct bushing size is for whatever brass I'm working with, and then buy (at least) the bushings .001" above and below that size, just to have some latitude in making minor adjustments. Nothing against neck turning, but it isn't always called for, or even appropriate to every handloading task.
