I have been reloading for almost a year now and have gotten everything down pretty well with .223 and 40s&w. I just acquired a .308 and I have been looking at does for my rcbs hand press. What does do I need and don't I need. I will be shooting out of a savage bolt action. I was confused by some sets with 3 die sets compared to 2 die sets. As well as small base large base and full length dies.

For a bolt gun you will just need a two die set.(Sizing and seating die.) The three die set usually has a crimp die that you will not need.A Small base is some times use for gas guns and tight chambered bolt guns.
The style of die and brand is a personal choice.I like Redding type S Bushing die with Titanium Nitrite Bushings.I also like to use a Redding Competition Seating die with the Mic on top to adjust seating depth . I use a Foster Co-Ax and RCBS Rock Chucker press for most of my reloading work.
I my opinion try to buy the best tools you can for reloading. They are an investment that will last for years.
