.308 to 7.62x39 chamber adapters

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

That would be physically impossible for a 7.62x39 to fire a .308 round adaptor or not, although .308 to 7.62x39 may be possible.

I have used the .308 adapters for the 30-06 in a military issue M1 Grand match rifle. They worked great in competition allowing us to shoot .308 match in the M1 Grand’s with no problem.
I didn’t know they made the 7.62 x 39 sleeves.

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there a difference in bullet diameter?

7.62x39: .311"
7.62x51: .308"

Would that pose an issue?

While I understand the above of using the .308 in an '06, but I would not want that garbage near my barrels.

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

feasible, not pheasable, thank you Helpy Helperson, .308 to 7.62x39, MCA makes them.

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

I guess my question is, with new brass and .308 bullets would this be a better option for subsonic loads?

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

Yes it would solve the case capacity issue to an extent but it's still not as efficient as a whisper/BLK. Besides, you're still going to have twist issues depending on the subsonic loads you want to run.

Yes they are indeed different, but not a problem. Troy Ehdlund of BarrelXchange has been converting .308 1919A4 Barrels to 7.62X39 with chamber inserts for several years now, and they shoot the slightly larger bullets without a hitch. Also for subsonic guns ALL the heavy bullets that would be available are going to be .308 diameter, and the 7.62X39 die sets all come with a .308 expander for reloading with the smaller diameter bullets. My Brownings love the 7.62X39 Russian/Yugo/Whatever, and supposedly all the Mini30 Rugers have always used .308 dia. barrels.

Yessir it is. The ONLY reason to go through all the "Whisper" brass hassle is if you are using the AR platform to shoot it in. The 7.62X39 and the .30 Carbine cases both work great for .308 subsonic bolt guns etc. neither requiring any case reforming operations. As mentioned above, the twist rate does effect just how heavy/long a projectile that can be stabilized at subsonic velocities. Most conventional wisdom holds that the maximum in a 1-10 twist is 190/208 grn. bullets. The heavier/longer 220/250 grn. bullets require the 1-8 twist. However, there is considerable evidence that the 1-10 can stabilize heavier bullets IF the Center of Gravity of the projectile is further forward than it is in the long pointy nose VLD type bullets. Lapua makes a specially designed .308 bullet for the Israelis for their subsonic .308 rifles. HTH

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

Rim diameters are not compatible. .308/.30-'06 = .473", 7.62x39 = .447".

Re: 7.62x39 to .308 chamber adapters

I played around withthis several years ago. I only fired handloads because of the difference in bullet diameter as someone explained earlier. I didn't have alot of luck with accuracy ( 2+moa at 100) I'm guessing because it has such a long jump. If it was for traing young kids or for short range yotes it would be ok. Your looking at a 3/8 to a 1/2" jump if i remember correctly but it maybe more. If its a Savage you can get the BR extractor for it.
