Are you using their palma brass with the small primer?

I'm crunching 46gr when I seat a 155 bullet.

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

I was able to squeeze 2999->3005 FPS out of my 30" with 47gr Varget, Nosler Brass, 155gr Berger Hybrids, and GM210M primers.

RADcustom - if you use a powder drop, you should be able to get at least 47-47.5 of Varget without crushing

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

Here is my suggestion, if you want 260Rem performance shoot a 260Rem, I learned this lesson the hardway, my bolt is scared from blowing out primer pockets, I used to shoot a 155 Scenar coated with HbN at 3050 from a 24inch Rock 11.25 twist, Lapua brass was toast in 3-5 loads.

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

My suggestion is to try 2000MR. I tried the 150gr sierra bullet with 50.5 grains and with my 24" barrel, the bullet was traveling 2956 fps. I'm still 1 grain below the maximum charge weight published on the Alliant website with no sighs of pressure. My rifle favors the heavy weight bullets, so I didn't pursue the 150 grain loads.

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

I got 2860 with 47.3 gr varget out of a 24" FN spr last weekend. Seemed kinda slow to me so not sure if my chrono was reading right. Started at 46gr and only gained 50 fps over 1.3 gr powder. Need to get out to a longer range or try a different chrono next time.

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

This was with the 155 scenar:

I am around 2860 in a 26" factory remington, 2760ish in a 20" factory remington and 2870ish in a 21.75" rock creek. This with varget and imr8208 which is generally just a touch slower than varget by 10-15fps in my rifles.

So... I would say you are about where you should be while staying within sane charge weights.

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

155's@3000fps...... that's Palma territory, which means a 28-31" barrel.

I guess it might be possible with a 22" barrel if you don't mind blowing primers, using a mallet to open your bolt and you're insurance it paid up.

Re: 308 win 155 Sierra , is 3000 fps possible?

I'm going to say no unless you want problems!? Palma shooters are in that area but most are shooting 30" and some 32" barrels and even some of they're loads I questions as I know the pressures are exceeding normal max. working pressures for .308win.

Just because you don't see any primer problems or hard bolt lift doesn't mean your going beyond the normal working pressures.

You want better performance go to a different caliber/round.
