30MOA vs 40MOA Base - 300 Blackout

For anyone running subsonic 300blk bolt guns, can I get away with a 40MOA base?

Primarily shooting subs. Want to push to 500-600 yards but still have a 100 yard zero. I know I can get away with 30moa and dial the scope down still to adjust the zero to run supers. Not sure I can with 40moa.

Have you played with the difference in dial at 100 yds for subs vs supers? I was hoping to have enough left to dial down to get a zero with supers that I could then use the reticle for.

Have only messed with .308 subs and supersonics but no issues getting a zero with both. I think the difference was about 6-8" at 100 if memory serves.

The problem I have seen, courtesy of videos from EGW is that if you are using a higher MOA rail, you need to have a farther zero.

For example, a 100 yard zero works fine with a 0 MOA rail. A 20 MOA rail should have a 200 yard zero. Otherwise, you will use a lot of elevation to get zero at 100 yards.

So, I am interested to follow this and see how it works out. If you can provide updates and data from the field.

Yeah that’s not true. Comes down to the scope and the amount of elevation available.

My memory from 308s is that I had to dial up about 8" at 100yds as well. So that's about 2-3 mils.

I ran a 30MOA base ony 22LR and it was awesome.

I have a 40 moa base on my .22 and will be putting a scope on a 20 moa mount on it so 60 moa total but the scope has 46.5 mils of elevation.

No. All that matters is how much travel your scope has. I have 80 MOA of cant on a rifle with a 50 yard zero.

OP, not sure if you have shot that scope to 600 yet on steel.

I have, and using the center dot and dialing was tough using a 66% IPSC.
Dot with illum on covered too much of the target and was pretty tough with off too.
Finer points holding over work better for me.


IF not trying to hurry, dialing part of your elevation less .5, and then using the first .5 mil hash as a cross hair worked well when I tried it.
Then there is the wind holds….


This is a 16” 556 AR with 75 bthp loads for reference.

Rifle Scopes - 30 MOA or 40 MOA?

I have a .338 LM being built by SAC. The action is an Alpha 11 (Defiance) with a 20 MOA integral base. I want to get this rifle out to a mile (1610m). According to AB, this will take 21.5 mrad. I am using an S&B 5-25x56 PMII with 26 mrad. Ideally, I think I will need a 10 MOA rail (approx 9...

BUT is awesome when smashing targets from 25-150 on drills….

Another fine option is a good 2-10 and offset red dot.

I have both, think the MPVO and red dot is better if mostly shooting precision 100-600+.
