ive heard a lot of good about this catridge and hardly any bad. im buying a barrel for a project mauser and came across it and did some research. i heard it shoots real well compared to a .30-06 and hits a lot like a .338 win mag. i just want to know can i neck up .30-06 brass? am i going to have to find factory .338-06 brass? i havent found any yet.

You can neck up .30-06 brass. An intermediate step would help but I've done it without one. Just use new brass or aneal first. In either case you should aneal afterward.

That or neck down Remington .35 Whelen brass. I found it in bulk at Wideners a few years ago.

Nothing bad to say about the 338-06. Good bullet selection, light recoil ( as compared to a full on 338 winmag ) great accuracy and good trajectories make it an easy rifle to hunt with.
Mine is on a VZ24 mauser and gets used for everything except cotton tails. Tried it once......glad I brought a granola bar for lunch.
