Gunsmithing .338 Barrels

after some searches and coming to a dead end I figured id swallow my pride and ask this question in here. I'm not a gunsmith at all but my question is for any gunsmith out there.

I found a .338 Lapua barrel on here for sale. I currently own a Rem. 700 in .338 RUM. it has a lightweight barrel currently and I'm wanting to put a heavier barrel on it. my question is, would the .338 Lapua work? I want to keep the rifle a .338 RUM but wasn't sure about what needs to happen to make it work if it even will.

You would have to cut at least 2+" off the barrel and then chamber it. That's assuming the cylinder section is long enough to make it work. It's not worth the expense and the trouble.

ahh well that sounds like more trouble than it's worth. I have a gunsmith who can do the job for a good price I just didn't want to buy a barrel and find out I cant use it. do you recommend a good pre fit barrel?
