I just got a Remington XCR Tactical and I'm trying to work up a load for it. I am currently in Afghanistan and when I get home on R&R I'll only have about two weeks to get something going. With that being said I want to have a good idea what I am getting my self into so as to maximize my time. I have been scouring these forums for the last week and feel pretty good about going with the Berger 300 gr Hybrids with H1000. I emailed Berger for their load data and they sent me this

300 Grain H1000 81.0 2500 85.2 2629 104.0%

That says that at a COAL of 3.681 the case capacity is at 104.0% What does this means exactly? Does it mean the bullet is actually compressing the powder and 85.2 gr really is the most you can possibly get in the case? I would like to utilize the magazine although I am not sure what the max COAL is for that as I don't actually physically have it right now. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Sorry for the long post

Re: 338 Lapua H1000 capacity

I use H1000 and the 300 grain bergers....I found in my rifle that it likes 89 grains....I go with the group size over velocity, as the bullet remains supersonic for so long, and 1000 yards is not hard for this round to travel....My COAL is 3.75" and theres plenty of room left in the case for more powder and a shorter oal....good luck, and thanks for your service.

Thanks Yankone, I ordered the H1000 but I'm also looking into the VIHT N570 as I have read a lot of good reviews on that. I also just found some Nosler 300 gr AB I'm going to pick up and try working a hunting load with.

Re: 338 Lapua H1000 capacity

I ran a ladder test from 86 to 92gr of H1000 out of my Savage FCP 110 on Saturday using 300 Berger OTMs. They all grouped well but max load (92gr) gave me an extreme spread of 5fps and a standard deviation on 2fps, avg velocity of 2735fps out of a 26'' 9 twist 35 ft above sea level. I only fired 5 shots @ max load but noticed a semi flat primer on one, I was seating them to 3.70 COAL, I will try a COAL of 3.725 next to see if that helps with pressure. I didn't really want to run max load but my SD and ES readings are too low to not explore this charge range. My gun was really easy to clean compared to my last outing trying US 869 which would not group in my gun.
