338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

94.5 grains RL25 with 250 scenars running around 3000 fps. Hot load. Work up accordingly.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

TRG, 93.5 RL25, Lapua brass, Fed 215M 'not GM', 250 Scenars, 3.680"OAL, 10 rounds ave. 2837 FPS, SD4, ES14, 53 degree's F. 4420' ASL. 5 shot .75 to 600. I'm gonna pump up the volume a bit.

2/1/11 New lot of RL25 and new Oehler 35P chrono. 63 degree's F, DA 5490 ASL, ave 10 shot 2949 FPS, SD 7. Even though SD with new powder lot was higher it held 5 shots .75" to 600 and .90" to 1000 yards.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

I got this email response from Alliant:

We have no data of our own for this cartridge so I will attach some loads from outside sources. Unfortunately there are no loads with RL 25. However, if you want to try RL 25 then use the max charge wt for RL 22 as a starting charge weight for RL 25. Work your way up from there and expect the max to be about 4 grs or so over starting. Let me know how it works out. Thanks for your interest in our powder and have a nice day.

What was the attached data from "outside sources"? How can you use the max weight for RL22 when they don't have 338LM in their reloading data?

The guys that told him to start with the max for RX22 as the start load for RX25 are more than likely the chemical engineers and physicists that developed the powder.

I doubt that they let the janitor field this question!

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

I use 86 grains and get 2750 with 300 smk's and 91 grains to get 2950 out of 250 scenars. Both are fired in a 1 in 10 26" barrel.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

94.0gr/RL25 under a Lapua 250gr Lock Base gave me a velocity of 2901fps.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

In my trg I used 93.5 of H-4831 and it shot like a house of fire! I seated th bullets as far out as the mad would let me 3.600

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

I'm going to bump this. It's been a while and I'm curious to see if anybody else has more information.

I'm getting ready to start load development on my 700P with RL 25 and 300 SMK's. I'm thinking 81 grains may be a good bottom end starting point.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

my loads and velocitys are very much like sr90 but rl 25 seems to vary some lot to lot.

Is your TRG 1:12 twist or 1:10?

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

i have been using the 300 bergers w rl-25. in my mlr they shoot well ( sub inch ) at 2900 fps, at around 2950 i get the stickey bolt. the rilfe is side lined for some work (bolt handle, ect), and i'm in the middle of building a new man cave/reloading room. when i can get to my load book i can give you more. my friend also has a mlr and was using retumbo and the rl-25 is about 100 fps faster without the pressure signs, and he is going to rl-25

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

Sweet! I've got some RE-22 that I'd been using with some S250MKs last year that worked really well in my 110BA. For some reason most of the load data I've found floating around for the B300Hybrid has been with H1000... which doesn't seem to be working all that well in my gun, so when I saw this thread on RE-25 I was kind of hoping *someone* had already blazed that trail

As a side note... how are RE-22/RE-25 as far as temperature stability in general? I've got bit once before by some RE-19 in a 6.5-08 - loads developed in April (not even that warm of loads, really) ended up needing the bolt pounded open in August, that sort of thing.

New 338 LM data added

2/1/11 New lot of RL25 and new Oehler 35P chrono. 63 degree's F, DA 5490 ASL, ave 10 shot 2949 FPS, SD 7. Even though SD with new powder lot was higher it held 5 shots .75" MOA to 600 and .90" to 1000. 21.5 MOA needed @ 1000, TRG42 1x12.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

Sako TRG42 .338 Lapua 1-10"
32 degrees celcius
Lapua brass, 250 gr. Scenar, Fed 215M primer
C.O.L. 3.650"
Fired 5 rounds through the chrono with 94.0 gr. RL25
= 2970 fps avg.

I used 86 gr of RE-25 with 300gr SMK's... Lapua brass and Fed 215M primers. Don't remember the velocity off hand, but will post it if I get a chance to look at my log book.

I found the RE-25 to be too temp sensitve for my late season elk hunts, so I worked up a load with H1000 that ended up being much better... single digit ES and SD, nearly 100 fps faster, and just as accurate. 92 gr H1000 with the 300gr SMK's. Note, these are both max loads, so work up carefully.

Re: 338 Lapua Magnum and Reloader 25

OK, checked the log book. 2665 fps with 86 gr of RE25... 2805 fps with 92 gr H1000... Both with the 300 gr SMK.
