i was thinking of building a 338 rum savage i was wondering what potential weak points i might have to worry about in modifying a savage long action for this purpose. this would be my first build of this type.

Re: 338 rum savage

I have a Savage 300 RUM that is on a large shank long action. The large shank barrel threads are slightly larger than the others. I also believe the magazine cutout/well is longer also.

I have not fired the RUM, I just got the rifle never fired in a trade. I intend to rebarrel it in 338 Edge and put it in a new stock.

Let me know if you want to try the 300 RUM barrel.

Re: 338 rum savage

I have a small shank 300 rum savage and Savage never had any problems with them. I am chambering a custom barrel in 300 rum for a customer in standard shank also. You will be fine with any rums on a savage.
