you got any size or weight limitations ?? I have a completed form 1 here that I'm planning to build for a 338 Lapua Improved thats not built yet.
I'm planning to make mine 12" long x 1.750" OD , and it'll probably weigh in the 40+ ounce range but should work very well. I'm planning on a 3" blast chamber with a flat blast baffle with 6 - .250" radial holes followed by 9-10 , 55 deg cones. I'm gonna use an external threaded brake like what the OP's and SAS cans use but it'll be a 3 baffle brake like the origional Badger thruster.
Yea it's gonna be long and heavy but the longer tube of cones should be a little more effecient than a fat tube with less cones. But its going on a rifle thats gonna weigh 12-15lbs anyway.
I have both 316 Stainless Steel and some titanium here to make the whole can , a fully welded Ti can would probably be in the 24-30 ounce range
I have also been thinking about a reflex desgine that would space the baffels closer together and make a bigger blast chamber ,this would call for having a barrel profiled like that of the OP's canned guns and would look somthing like this

I built one for my 308, but also made it to fit my 338 rum. It is a bit heavy at 48 ounces though. 4130 tubing 1.75" by 12" The blast baffle is .070" thick, the remaining ones a bit less. As I live in WA, opportunities to actually use my silencers are a bit rare, so I have only used it on my 308 so far.
My designs rarely get from paper to finished product without changes. I use 4130 because it is cheaper than stainless and what I buy seems to be straighter and smoother than the 304 SS I buy from Online Metals in Seattle.

If you do it without a license, then you need approval first. MD is one of the 37 states that allows unlicensed person to own silencers. Download ATF form 1 and form 5330.20 from the ATF website. You can order finger print cards and the other forms from the ATF website too. Fill out the forms and get your local sheriff to sign the back of the ATF form 1 and send it in along with the 5330.20, finger prints, your photo and a check for $200. The ATF never denies approval as long as the forms are filled out correctly. You can not make any parts until the AF form 1 is approved and in your hands.
Paying a $200 tax is usually less expensive for a hobbyist. A license costs $200 for the FFL (3 years) and $500 a year for the SOT class 2. You can make an unlimted number of title 2 weapons with the license without paying a tax, but they belong to the business and can only be possessed as long as you keep paying the tax each year.

You get the approval with the ATF form 1. takes a couple months or so to get it and it costs 200 bux. once you get it back, you can make your can, you need to engrave, the model, serial number maker and location on the tube per the ATF's engraving specifications. easy as that.
Just make sure you don't do any work until you get the form back, otherwise you get caught and your in trouble for making/posessing an unregistered silencer.

very good. Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like I just go through the same process as getting a supressor. Im gonna give it a go. I have some ideas, just never thought that was possible.
