33gr 1500 fps or 40gr 1050 fps

Re: 33gr 1500 fps or 40gr 1050 fps

The 40 gr SV load.
The BC of a 33gr .22 slug may be a negative number.:)
The light one will drift like crazy, and go subsonic pretty quickly, like under 100yd.

The 40 gr sub will probably even carry more energy at 250yd.
Might even have less drop way out there, but I don't have the chart at hand. Even if the 40SV has more drop, the group will be a lot smaller.

The intent of the hypervelocity loads is for flat trajectory at normal field distances, so there's little hold over/under between 30 and 80 yards or so. But the low mass makes them more subject to wind, both drag and drift. The brakes go on at the muzzle.

Yes, the Yellow Jackets are still going as fast at 100yd as the SV is at the muzzle, but it has lost half its energy; the SV is carrying more energy and has drifted much less.

That's the same advice I have always heard. Take the HV when you go hunting just for the fact that its a little flatter and faster out to a hundred. When you are going to range take the SV. More consistent and its cheaper. Can't beat that!
