I've searched but haven't been able to find a solid answer. I recently bought my first long range gun, a remmy 700 xcr tactical long range in 308. It is a dedicated target only gun and I'm on a tight budget so I bought a Sightron 36x. I've been shooting at 100 and 200 but not any farther yet. I have a couple matches coming up pretty soon (groundhog, egg, and money shoot) and was wondering if I'll be able to see my bullet holes a 500 yards? Thanks in advance.

Re: 36x scope question

On regular paper no. If you use The shoot and see type targets you will have no problem spotting you're hits to 600+ depending on mirage.

Should be able to see .30 cal holes in certain types of paper at 500 when conditions are right. If mirage kicks up, forget it.

What he said^^^. If the mirage gets very bad, you'll have a hard time seeing a shoot-n-see at 500yd. It's doubtful that it will be that bad very often, but I always use shoot n sees whenever I'm shooting for groups at 300yd+. It makes the process a lot easier.
