40X .308 Repeater... PICTURE!... Need advise

In a couple days I'll be taking possession of a rifle I've wanted for years! It's a Remington 40X Repeater in .308! I am Sooo excited about it... I just couldn't keep it to myself anymore! Based on the description I was given it was bedded by McMillan into one of their 40X Modified stocks. It has a 1:12 twist. The barrel is Stainless. It's had 545 rounds down the tube. This is the closest thing to an M40A1 I could afford that I have no doubt will be an excellent shooter. I still haven't decided but I'm thinking I would like to eventually put it in a Return M40A1 Stock. If anyone out there has one that they would be willing to trade for the stock I'm getting with the rifle, PM me.

Now... I think I'd like it to have a more Tactical look to it. But I'm poor! I could use some advise. Thanks in advance.

Maybe this would be a good location to post a question concerning the Rem 40X receiver option (The USMC procurement auth. States Rem 700/40X).

My son has a GAP (Eric Reed Build) M40A3 (small fire plug on bottom of barrel). Beautiful stick & shoots like a laser guided missile. No problem there.

O.K., but it has the bolt release atop the rear left side of the receiver (A-la, 40X/40XB). I’ve read that this is an option offered by GAP.

So, looking through DOD photos on the net, I have seen a few field action pictures like this published and apparently “in country”.

So, my question is, WTF?

Is this correct for a USMC M40A3??? Who’s right?

Maybe I just don’t understand the 40X thing!

Could you guys straighten me out.

I don't know if this is the case now but back 25 years ago, if I'm remembering correctly, no 2 M40A1's were exactly alike. Mostly just the paint-jobs were different but I also recall different Scope-mounts, triggers (some felt different) and seems to me there were other minor differences from rifle to rifle. They were all custom built at Quantico and I think different pieces-parts may have been tried out on them. It was along time ago for me but that's what I remember.

</div></div>No... But it IS crap. I don't know the brand. It's only on there until I can afford a decent scope. I've used it on other rifles for the same reason and it seems to work OK.

i dont know what its purpose is in your like up, but if i were you id miss that adjustable cheekpiece

Actually I have an M40. Well... One of the Remington re-issues. I was thinking more along the lines of an M40A1 but I'm thinking I'll leave it as it is. It's really nice like it is. First range trip will decide for me.
