40x recomendations

Re: 40x recomendations

It's hard to imagine it being any more accurate than it already was when I got it. But if you want to spend money, send me your rifle and your money and I'll say I trued it

Re: 40x recomendations

+1 on the Lilja 4 groove. You have a choice of a tight bore or standard bore from Lilja.

Don't forget about considering an anschutz 5018 trigger with a briley adaptor bracket.

Higher velocity per inch of barrel length.

Re: 40x recomendations

FPS is not the consideration - it is just a tighter bore to shoot dif. ammo lots
that may not be as good in a regular bore.
You can not size your ammo in rimfire so some people go with the tight which they
believe gives them better accuracy - same deal as picking a twist.
Some say a 17 will not go in cold temps but others seem to prove it can be done.
1-16,1-17,1-18,1-16.5??? Tight regular bore???
You pays your $$ and takes yo chances.
Tight bores do a lot of winning.

Tighter bores give you better velocity and bullet stabilization which translates to better BC and less wind drift which at any distance farther than 25-50 yards equates to better consistency and smaller groups which translates to more hits as the distances grow all things being equal.

Actually, in rimfire, the better ammo is subsonic, so higher velocities can be self-defeating. In centerfire, you want the higher velocities because the travel time is reduced so there is less wind-drift (BC is the same despite the velocity).

The problem with 22LR is that it is right around the speed of sound. When a bullet goes from hypersonic to subsonic, strange things happen... better to avoid that velocity region altogether by either being safely above that region (HM2, HMR) or below that region (22LR).

Lapua actually specs their ammo in "L" or "M" for "large" or "medium" so if yo uwant to see if it works better for you, you can buy the "L" designation.
