Been doing all my load dev. with lapua brass, run into some once fired Hornady at the range today, 45 pieces for 22 bucks. seems like a nice price. Thoughts? I am thinking I might use it to learn how to anneal and maybe play with some other non 300 gr loads for fun.

I am only asking because I read a bunch of reviews on midway with folks complaining about the Hornady brass, which was a bit surprising to me, I normally like their stuff.

For my money 45 pieces isn't much. I prefer to keep all of my brass the same (Lapua). But if it's once fired and you get ~10 shots/piece then that's 450 shots for only $22 which for 338 is awesome. I would have bought it for a rainy day.

Like HB says, $22 isn't a lot and it's worth the gamble if it functions in your weapon. Use it for load work-ups, where you're not certain things will be optimal. Or use it for fouling shots, if you have some bullets around that aren't ideal for LR shooting.

FWIW I have about 40 pieces of hornady 338LM that were left over from factory boxes. They are now on the 4th reload and appear to be holding up well so far. No loose primer pockets and necks look good. Shot out of a TRG with 250SMK's and shoulders bumped minimally.

Have read though that some factory 338's don't function well with the hornady brass so might be worth some more investigation.
