Re: 460 s&w performance center

My friend just got the 8 3/8" one. I loaded for him. It seems a bit nuts that it takes 52 grains of powder with the 200 grain Hornady, but it's a hoot to shoot.

Re: 460 s&w performance center

I've got one, but it's a short barreled "defensive" type revolver for hunting/backpacking in Grizzly country. 3.5" barrel performance center version. It's a very nice revolver, but a handful to shoot

If you want some pics, let me know.

I know this isn't exactly like your rig, but what the hell.

This is a couple years old, but its of my little sister.

She bucked it just fine. You'll be surprised how easy they are to shoot.

Just a friendly reminder, don't shoot hot stuff w/o gloves.

Regards--

Re: 460 s&w performance center

My god that is a great suggestion! I need to get some gloves now, been abusing the hell out of my 629 and even had a squib early on. I've seen enough revolvers with missing top straps and split cylinders to ignore the risks anymore.

Re: 460 s&w performance center

No photos but I do have a bit of trigger time. I have a 460 XVR with 8 3/8" barrel and I really like it. It is amazing how flat shooting the round is. You will love the versatility too. you'll be able to shoot 460 S&W, 454 Casull and 45 Colt in it.
I have a 460 PC but have never shot it.

Re: 460 s&w performance center

My Father gave me a 4" after my first deployment and that thing is badass. I have shot 45LC 454's and the 460MAGs out of it and yes when you touch the "GO" button there is no question if it went off or not. Get the 460 you will be pleased, the 460mag is very accurate all the way to 200yards.

Re: 460 s&w performance center

so any of you that own a 460 wish you would have went with the 500 for 1 reason or another or maybe been happier with something more toned down like a 44 or 357?

Re: 460 s&w performance center

I have two .357's and love them, I owned 1 44mag and traded it for a .270win. The 357 will do anything you need to do short of stopping a train or a big bear. The 357 will not destroy your hand and can be downloaded to 38spl. The 44 has to much recoil for what it does, if you want something bigger than a 357 step up to the 460S&W. NO I would not choose the 500 over the 460. You can download the 460 to 454 or 45LC so there is more choice there. Also the 460 is surprisingly accurate to 200yards, if you reload there is fare more options for the 460 as well. If you own a gold tiger striped Desert Eagle and you wear a big feather in your hat then go buy the 500.

Re: 460 s&w performance center

good info. it sounds like it will be very versitile being able to shoot 45 colt rounds

Re: 460 s&w performance center

You asked about the .50 SW Mag over the .460 XVR and buyers remorse...none, at all, here.

I've shot and enjoyed both the .50 AE and SW, but the .460, as has been mentioned, is way more versatile.

Not to knock the other calibers, they have their virtues, but the Smith .460 XVR is my fave for versatility reasons.

If you've got the cash, buy'em all. But if you want one gun do do it all, the .460 is what you want. No regrets.
