As anybody used or seen the 5.11 Rush 12 packpack below?

I'm looking for a slightly larger daysack to carry my shooting and hunting gear than my present Karrimor Delta 25 (25L).

I like the pockets on the Rush 12, and its about the size I need (30L to 35L) as I want it to also double for airline carry-on when travelling. I looked at the Camelbak Motherload and its a bit too large for my needs.

The only downside I see is the lack of a waist belt.

Alternatively, I was thinking of getting a basic assult pack like the Templar Operators Patrol Pack, (below) and then customising with the approriate Molle pouches as needed.

I have no idea where either are made, but I am concerned about the quality; as a recreational shooter, while I don't need all the features of say a Kifaru Pack, I do want one that is robust and up to the job.

What ever I go with, I'd like a degree of Molle compatibility for customisation...

Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome..

Regards,

Peter

Re: 5.11 Rush 12 pack

I did some good looking into this bag when i was looking for a replacement for my old bag. This bag was to small for my needs. I looked into Mexpedition, 5.11, Camelbak, and others. You do not need the waist strap for this bag as its a small bag imo. The bag i ended up getting was the 5.11 rush 72 bag which is plenty of room but also has the compression straps needed to strap it down to carry on size. If you can id suggest going to a store (if there is one near you) and actually looking at them to see what would fit your needs better, hope this helps.

Chris,

Thanks for that, but I'm not sure either bag is available locally to look over. That said, I'm not in any particular rush, so may wait until I come across one on my travels.

Are you happy with the build quality of the 5.11 Rush 72? Any idea where its made?

I would prefer to buy a quality item made in a 1st World country, but seems to be getting more and more difficult here in the UK..

Peter

Re: 5.11 Rush 12 pack

Well i did a quick look but i didnt see a "made in ***" label. However im very critical of my bags as im active duty military with 3 deployments under my belt and need something that will hold up. Ive had stuff fail all to often and this so far is great and appears to be great quality. I use it as a range bag and as a field bag so it sees its fair share of heavy stuff and rough love.

Here's the video. I talk about the Rush72 Backpack at the end of the video. Should be able to give a good idea of what the packs are like:

Mike,

Thanks for the input espesially the video.

While the Rush 72 looks like an excellant pack, its still a bit big for my needs. A vendor not too far away has the Rush 24 in stock, so I think I will take a look at that, or possibly the Rush 12...

No problem, those are good packs to go with as well...

Re: 5.11 Rush 12 pack

I called in a place in the next village over today that stocked the 5.11 Rush 24 and 72, plus an assortment of other patrol sacks.

With import costs and taxes ect, the 5.11 Rush and simlar Camelbak patrol sacks are quite a bit more expensive over here compared to the States and given that I am only a recreational shooter, I went in with a view to looking a some of the more reasonably priced brands, figuring they would be good enough for what I need.

After spending about 45 minutes browsing at the various packs, I can honestly say both the 5.11 Rush 24 and 72 *really* impressed me.

The build quality and material used were noticably better than on the cheaper packs; the quality of the sitch work on the 5.11 stuff in particular caught my eye, with seams being sewn tighter and generally much better finished than the cheaper models.

The Camelbak Motherlode & Motherlode Lite were of a similar high quality, but were nearly twice the price of the 5.11 packs..

The only reservations I had about the 5.11 Rush 24 was that it was approaching a size where a waist belt might have been handy, and also if filled, its probably borderline as hand luggage on an airline flight.

Unforetunatly the shop did not stock and would not get hold of a Rush 12, annd I would still like to see one and compare it to the 24.

Regardless I think the choice will be between those two models, as the cheaper sacks were distinctly inferior and I prefer the layout of the Rush packs to the equivilent Camelbak Motherload offerings...

Regards,

Peter

Re: 5.11 Rush 12 pack

I bought the Rush 24 a couple of years ago and used it as my primary gear hauler for training, shooting schools, and SWAT ops. It has held up well and has quite a few great features while maintaining a streamlined profile; not too big, not too small. Very well put together. I really like the tall, but low profile, side pockets and internal compartments. The soft lined outer pocket keeps eye pro in good shape.

I also am a pleased with the Maxpedition Kodiak--great kit.
