Does anyone carry a FN Five-seveN, or similar, for personal defense?

Recently, I had to drop my 92FS off at the shop, and my regular backup, J-frame, was in my camper. This left me with only my Five-seveN in a SERPA to carry, which I loved!
I use to think the safety was wonky, but after open carrying in the SERPA it makes perfect sense.

A former co-worker carried one with the 30rd mag extension. He liked the low recoil and high capacity.

I do not carry one. I haven't been impressed with what I've read about the performance of the available ammo, coming from the pistol barrel.

Hate to be so morbid, but Major Nidal Hassan used a 5.7 pistol in Ft. Hood.

If you consider the ratio of killed/wounded, it is very high as compared to other pistol-only attacks (such as James Holmes in Aurora).

Obviously shooter skill is a factor as well, but to dismiss the 5.7 as ineffective is incorrect, I think.

Bottom line is connecting with a target is most important. The 5.7 gives a shooter a LOT of chances to do that.

Honestly, I'd never carry a 5.7 if I had a choice, but it doesn't seem like you have a choice until your 92 back. I don't like the overpenetration of the 5.7 because I want a bullet to expend all of its energy into the target. If this is a temporary thing, no need to change what you're doing. I would want something else if I were facing carrying a 5.7 in perpetuity. Just personal preference.
