A friend of mine just called me and ask if I wanted to buy 3000 rounds of 50 bmg ammo. He doesn't know anything about 50 bmg and neither do I! He wants 2.50 a piece is this to much? What should I offer him? I'm just going to resell. Could I turn a profit if I bought them for 2.50 a round? Thanks for any info

Re: 50 bmg ammo

It depends on the ammo you are talking about. The .50 BMG has been around a while now. You could have stuff that is worth $1.50 a round (corrosive berdan primed) to some Manufactured (Talon, Barret, etc.) that could easily be worth $5 to $9 a round. Get him to give you some headstamps and pics'

That's a lot of $$ right there.

You really need to find out what kind of ammo it is before you commit to buying.

Re: 50 bmg ammo

When I was at Ft. Hood we would get back from gunnery on the tanks and all 7.62 and 50 cal ammo left on the tanks went into the dumpster. Once it was out of the cans they would not take it back. One of the guys in my platoon ended up with tons of 50bmg ammo and I took home around 3k 7.62 on links. Was a shame to see it go into the dumpster. Not sure if this is still the practice hopefully they have changed it.

BTW wasnt there a post on one of the forums a while back where someone had a shit ton of 50bmg ammo stolen. I want to say in the march april time frame.

Once upon a time in lands far away there were/are folks into battlefield pickups. Problem was, the pickups were spiked and weapons/body parts started to become the old term we used, "It/he became Un-Cunted".
There are very tight controls on ammo and other items for reasons, other than money. When weapons start blowing up in your face, you'll second guess pulling the trigger. This has been, and will keep going on, by everyone on this rock for along time.
Remember you only have to be unlucky once. Before you pull that pin and let the spoon fly, ask yourself did X_______________ tamper with this fuse?

Re: 50 bmg ammo

I'm supposed to look at ammo in a day or two. I'll bring some home, and post a pic. He said most is just regular 50 bmg ammo. He said there are some tracer rounds. If I get my hands on it I will let y'all know.

Re: 50 bmg ammo

Sounds a bit high esp for that ammount. Look on the back of the 50 Caliber Magazine.....you can buy new stuff for about that amount in small quantities. And mind what the guyys above were warning....a 50 aint nothing to be messing around with if you dont know what your doing....not that any firearm is. I think Id be VERY careful with that deal.

Re: 50 bmg ammo

No changes were ever made to the outside if State, loaded. If the bullet was hand pulled to gain access, and done correctly, you had to have a microscope to see the different marks on the case neck and base afterward. The primer and it's sealent were never tampered with in the field, and a new bullet was always used.

Way more of their ammo was treated than ours, biggest payback was Arty, mortar rds, an anything else that had a fuse.
As far as ammo goes anything fused, has the best an biggest pay back. Wiping out a tube an crew,... is were the term "Un-Cunted" started.
