I have been looking at a 541 X Remington. Can anyone tell me something about them. It looks like a 513 action with a few changes. Are the barrels screwed in or are they pinned? Are they good shooters or just plinkers? Any pro's or con's would be appreciated.

Re: 541 X

I believe the 541 barrels are pressed in and pinned, not threaded. They have a rear lugged bolt like the 580 series rifles and have much better triggers than a 513-T. They are very good shooting rifles.

Re: 541 X

I have one I got from the the CMP several years ago.

Not sure about the pinned or screwed barrel.

Mine shoots well with wolf match. Not sure if they would be considered benchrest quality.

Mine had to have trigger work done.

Re: 541 X

I've shot my cousins. Pretty accurate, his trigger sucked. Stained Birch stock. It had to be drilled and tapped for a scope mount. My 2cts, Unless you have to have a repeater, I'd look for a CMP 40x for $800 before I spent $600 on a like new 541X. For me, its a $400-500 rifle, Anything more is collector value. JUST MY OPINION
