Hey Guys,

Did some searching but didn't come up with much. I have a .308 and a .22LR and wanted to get something in between and .223 seemed like a good option. That said, I have a ton of 556 rounds lying around from my AR and wanted to know if there were any bolt guns out there chambered in 556. I know there is the Mossberg MVP, but wanted to see if there was anything else.

I've also heard about buying a .223 and swapping out the barrel for one in 556 but wanted to see if there was an all-in-one option.

Thank you in advance.

Re: .556 Chambered Bolt-Action Options?

I would be willing to bet the Remington bolt guns would do fine with 5.56 even if chambered for .223... assuming it will chamber the round.

But, that being said; do so at your own risk.

The difference in the chambers is the leade/throat, which is longer in the 5.56, conveniently remington is terrified someone will chamber some terrible combination and create a high pressure incident so they put a long throat in there rifles of late. This is the only time I'd call it a benefit. It is officially a .223 though.
