6.5-06 twist rate?

I have the option of picking up a used rifle in the said chambering with a 9 twist benchmark barrel. I'll be at 800' elevation. What bullets do you think it will stabilize?

It will stabilize all but the long 1.35 long match 130's and 140's. It may stabilize those too but you never know until you try. Most are 1:8 or 1:8.5.

Mine is a 26" 1:8 Shaw that shoots awesome with the 140 Amax.

You might be able to spin the 140's. I have two 6.5-06 at 8 twist shooting 140 amax close to 3000fps. I have one 260 27" that will stabilize 140's and it is a 1in9.

I have a 26.5 inch Shilen 1 x 8.5 twist it likes the Sierra 142's a lot. I am playing with some Berger 130 hunter vld's in hope of deer season.

I am at 5000 ft. Today it was 100 degrees f out. H4350 no problems.

Mine is 1-9. It shoots 120's like nobody's business. 140's not so much. Wish it was a 1-8.

I shot 140'sbergers out of a 8.5 twist at sea level. I think you could get away with 130's. Check the Berger website for twist rates

My 8.5" twist .260 stabilizes 140gr VLDs no problem.

My 6.5-06 would stabilize 140ssts just fine. In a vld design you might have to go to 130s.

I would pick it up. I don't have a 6.5-06, but love the idea. I like wildcats and want to do a build just like this!
