6.5-284 123 flat lines

Looking for in put. I'm putting togther 6.5-284 24"bartlin barrel we shoot steel from Feb- Oct out to 1100yds. How's load development, expected speeds, groups, I know theyou are target bullets but has anybody wacked a yoke or ground hog with one ect? I'M curious

Use the starting info that Warners provide for loading, the 65-284 is nowhere near as popular today as it was 10-12 years ago so I have never shot the 123s thru one. I dont know how speeds are going to be other than "fast". They do 3150+ from a 65 Creed.

They kill stuff. On a tiny animal lile a ground hog I doubt it will do anything but pass thru. On a whitetail that was shot with a 7mm 151gr bullet (which the 123 resembles) the animal was large enough that the projectile bent into a candycane shape and tumbled inside. It made a large woumd cavity and the deer never took a step.

@Hattrick : 6.5-284 is a great cartridge. Not as popular, but it out performs most of the other cartridges in its caliber. 6.5-284 gets about 3,050 fps with 140gr Bergers. In my experience 6.5-284 will shoot 1,500-2,500 rounds with .5 MOA accuracy (Gotten 3-4" groups at 1,000 yds, .5-1" groups at 300 yds...Consistently). Depending on how hot you load, will determine 1,000 vs 2,500 barrel life. IMHO twist will be the most important thing to consider in order to ensure you are stabilizing the bullets properly. Wind reading is more forgiving than other calibers, but you have to do your part. Good luck with the build!

I like the caliber we have 4 of them in are family. We can do everything the prc does with them. Barrel goes on next week. Looking for forward to it to having my own

I’m running that 123 in my 6.5 Prc. Hornady virgin brass vs once shot sized. Love that Warner Flatline.....

I asked Dan to make me tipped expandable version for hunting.

I filed a patent application back in march for that actually. Controlled expansion of a hollow point projectile without any detriment to the aerodynamics other than the inherent loss in weight from hollowing out the nose.

We haven't gotten to shoot anything with a heartbeat with it yet though.
