I have a new 6.5CM 26" Krieger bull barrel waiting to install onto my latest build, and I want to lighten this heavy pig up a bit. It's currently about 1" to the rifle length gas block, .936 at the block and finishes out at .870" at the muzzle. Barrel, 26", .308 AR, 6.5 Creedmoor, Bull, 1x8, Stainless, Plain, Krieger
I'm going to more than likely send it to Adco for the work, but before I do I wanted to get some ideas on contours that others have tried. I'm not chopping it as I'm looking for the most velocity as I can get without going hot on the loads. I'm of course looking for accuracy, including with strings of 10-15 shots in a minute with minimal drift. Use is more for me dabbling around at 1k+, but also as a potential comp gun if the COF would benefit from it versus a bolt gun. I'm intending mostly to use it having fun, but not only on nice groomed ranges. It will be lugged around.
Would I lose the stiffness and accuracy too much if I have it turned down to .900" to the block, .875 at the block and finish it out with a fluted .750 from there? I'd like to bring it in under 4.5lbs and bring the balance back towards the center than forward, while not losing anything in the accuracy department. Any experience based ideas are appreciated.
