I started reloading 6.5 Creedmoor with 140gr A-Max bullets and I'm using the L.E. Wilson bullet seater. When I seat the bullets it's leaving a big dent in the bullet (please see picture). The brass is new, .290 outside neck diameter. The two rounds that I've loaded ends up being .291 outside neck diameter. They are hard to seat for only having .001 of neck tension which is probably causing the denting. Has anyone else seen anything like this? What dies are you guys using to load the 140gr A-Max?

(In the picture, the round on the left is Hornady factory 140gr A-Max and the round on the right is mine.)

Thanks...

I use Hornady dies to load mine and never had a problem like that. Using .002" of neck tension. Check the seater stem. It might not be made for the polymer tip.

My 6.5 CR Hornady set came with two seaters. The Amax ogive needs a VLD stem. I had to order $19. separate stems for Redding comp seaters. Standard ones hit the bullet tip , not the circumfrence. Plastic bullet tips get mushroomed over. Sinclair tech says its the ogive on amax and Bergers. Natchez had the only 6.5 die set outside of the way overpriced Redding set.

That's a good option from Hornady. When I got my set it was 2008 and it was the only set available. I added a micrometer to the seater but it only had one stem. Glad they are sending out two now.
