Looking for a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel for a DPMS pattern receiver. Not 100% sure on length yet, but it'll be between 18" and 22". Goal is sub MOA with factory match ammo. Budget is $600. Ballistic advantage and the Rainier ultramatch are at the top of my list, but I'd appreciate hearing experiences with any other brands out there.

I'm definitely open to having a custom barrel made, but considering the price of some of the "off the shelf" barrels I'm assuming a custom is likely out of my budget.

Go JP for an off-the-self, while it will cost a little more than $600, you get a head spaced HP bolt with it. I get .5 MOA with Hornady factory 140 ELDs, while my friend gets the same with Prime through his.

Actually it's less then a off the shelf barrel.

$340.00 for a Bartlein or Krieger Barrel Blank. From Bungholes.com

$90.00 for JP Barrel Extension

$150.00 for Barrel assembly, chambering, contouring, threading from Compass Lake engineering.

That puts you at $580.00 minus the cost of the BCG I would recommend going with a full JP low-mass BCG, but Rubber City Armory is also a good choice with their HP bolts for about half the price.

Also keep in mind if you are MIL or LEO those Prices stated above are substantially less.

I always go with a high-grade blank custom-made to my liking that way I never have that little devil on my shoulder Whispering that there's something better out there.. hope this helps.

I missed that somehow. With the JP barrel including the bolt I'd consider it well within my price range. That definitely puts the JP at the top of my list. Any other options that would have that level of accuracy for that price?

I bought my 6.5mm Bartlein blank from bugholes.com and sent it to Craddock Precision for contouring and chambering. I think for all I still ended up being about the same price as the JP barrels. JP's are good but "I" much preferred a Bartlein for my build. I did use a JP barrel extension though.

For those of you that had custom barrels spun up, how does that work with having the bolt headspaced? Do you send them a bolt or do they just headspace it to the specs for whatever bolt your using.
