6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

Re: 6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

I'd go H4350, since H4831 is a little higher pressure for a gas gun (unless you have an adjustable gas port). Start at mid range of the manual data for a Creedmore, and work up. Typically, max charge will be a few tenths of a grain less than book max in a semi auto. I'd probably start at around 38 or 39 grains, and slowly go up until you find a good load. Hornady factory ammo is 41.5 or 41.2 grains of H4350 with a 140 A-max.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

Well, if you go by Hodgdon's manual, 40.0 grains is a book max load. In a gas gun, I wouldn't start that high. I would start lower and work up to that charge, and maybe a little beyond 42 grains, but you have to see what the rifle and brass are doing to know. Take 3 rounds each, start at 38, and go up in small increments up til 42 or 42.5 or so. You can always pull the bullets and reuse. Chrono the loads as you shoot for groups on each load at 100 or 200 yards, and you'll know what the rifle likes after these rounds. Then go from there.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

I use the factory load 140 amax with 41.5gr of H4350 in both my bolt gun and the 6.5DPMS.

Last time i had some 139s i ran the same exact charge with good results.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

What's the book max for 140 Amax's for 4350?
Actually I'm looking to see what the % difference is between the two max loads (140 Amax/139 Scenar).

Re: 6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

A blast from the past...Its been over 2 years fellas

I am bringing this thread back from the dead in the hopes that there have been more 6.5 Creedmoor gas gun load development in the past two years

I am interested to see what everyone is shooting and how things are working out.

I have a JP LRP-07 in 6.5 Creed (22' barrel) on order and am excited about the prospects of gleaning a load that will work to 1k yards.

I ordered 200 rds of factory Hornady from Mile High and will work with those cases.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor semi auto load?

Loading the 140 Amaxes my AR loves 39.7grs of H4350 which only pushes it at around 2600 fps but its tends to stay 1/2 moa or better so I cant complain and it stays supersonic well past 1000 yards.

I have been messing around with a few other loads in my bolt gun with the 140 VLDs and the 142 SMKs hopefully I will have data on that when the weather improves.

Dr. Frankenstein here reviving another deceased thread.

I got in the 20" SS 1/9 6.5 Creedmoor barrel today. I have a bolt gun recopies for the 123 Lapua Scenars (39.5 Varget) and the 140 Berger Hybrids (43.0 H4350) but both of these are seated out to max length for AICS mags. I'm going to adjust the seater down a few thousands for 123's in a Pmag and start at 39.0 (.9 below listed max) and see what happens. Hornady lists 39.0 of Varget on the box for their 120 A-Max so hopefully the 123 Scenars like it too.

I know this is seldom mentioned from all of the either bolt or auto data, but since I have a pretty large stash of 108gr Lapua Scenars originally designated for my 6.5 Grendels, I thought I'd roll the dice once with them in recently completed Creedmoor AR. Only shot two 5 round groups with 39.5 Varget/210m at 2.089 to ogive, but both were under .6 without any attempt to fine tune the load. Nothing. Which provided some encouragement to continue down this path a bit further.
All that said, anyone else ever pursue lighter Scenars in the Creed? A few of the guys on Grendel forum have high regard for this bullet, and would think I'm pushing in the area of 2950+, so may hold well to 6-800, but won't know till I've had a chance to press further. Interested in other's experience. Do have good supply of 123's to fall back on, if these don't range well. Thx.

max charge I have put is 43.4gn of H4350 for about 2690fps on Magneto (case head starting to get shiny spot from plunger)
seeing groups frm .4 to 1 from different charges.

I have an JP Rifles LRP07, 22" barrel in 6.5cm semi auto on its way.

Ordered a box of Hornaday 147 ELD, Nosler 140 RDF and Nosler Accubond LR 142. These being top 3 BC's I can find!

Ive got 2 boxes of Hornaday Black to do barrel breakin.

Anyone with load development with these bullets in a 6.5cm semi auto?? OR

Using this gun with different bullets?

Many thanks

20 inch PA10 getting the same exact results as this.

100 yards two on right is me getting it dailed in. Next 3 in the orange dot. Hornady brass, F210M primers, Hornady 140 eldm, 42 grn H4350, .017 thousands off. At 200 group was 1 1/4 inch.

I just started a new round of load development myself. I want to make sure I'm not about to blow anything up before I go to round 2 and chase high end nodes that are not safe/sustainable or will destroy my Hornady brass.
In each case their appears to be a node just around 43gr / 2675fps where factory ammo shot so good when I first put the barrel together that is low and safe. Each bullet also has a high node that is VERY HOT and about 2775fps from a 22" barrel!!!

JP 22" XL Gas barrel. 60F. about 300 or 400 rounds down the tube. The new barrel started out shooting factory 140gr ammo 3/4 to 1 MOA average at about 2650 fps. Since broke in factory ammo is over 2700fps and well over moa on average. Primers are generally flat on all factory ammo, but no other pressure signs. Factory Federal GM 130hybrid made its primers FLAT FLAT FLAT at 2880fps. Labradar for below velocities.

Berger 140 Hybrids. 2.835" COAL - magazine length. 0.110" - 0.120" jump. H4350. Gas cut off for test, manually pulling CH. Entire pattern was 4-1/4" wide horizontal. 500 yds. 60F. Bad mirage left to Right with light wind

I have a 22" JP match barrel, BCG and SCS Gen 2 H as well. 41.3 grain under 140 ELD is my match load, velocity is 2670 +/- a couple fps. During load development I found the node north of that to be rather tight and inconsistent, plus primer pockets were getting noticeably loose after just 3 firings. At 41.3 primer pockets stay nice and tight and it was the center of about a .4 grain spread.
