Second time out since I put this gun together. 1st was only to 500 and no Chrono.
AR platform. 18" 1:8 twist
Shooting factory Hornady loads 123 grain Amax
20 rounds thru Chrono averaged 2547. High at 2560
9:00 am temp 76.8 F DA 1815 BP 29.66 Alt. 225 Wind at 12:00 3-5mph

10:00 am 83Degrees DA 2220. Wind 5 mph gust to 8 mph in the face.
300 yard calculated 1.5 mils Actual 1.7 mils
500 yard calculated 3.6 mils Actual 3.8 mils
600 yard calculated 4.9 mils Actual 5.3 mils
700 yard calculated 6.2 mils actual 6.5 mils

12:45 pm DA 2350 91 Degrees wind 5-8 Gust to 12
1000 yards calculated 10.2 mils Actual 11.5 mils

Not sure if the BC needs tweaking or if the speed by the Chrono may be off a little. Once I got the corrected elevation done, it was on. Holding 1 full mil wind at 1000 was dead nuts for me and a couple of others shooting .260.
In comparison, the 260's were about 8.3-8.7 mils to 1000 with 1 mil wind.
This little slow 123 grain bullet bucks the wind pretty well. Considerably slower by 200+ fps than the .260 shooting the 140 Amax. The speed shows with the 11.5 vs 8.5 mils to 1000 but boy was I happy with the way it shot. Not to mention the Hornady factory ammo I'm shooting. I built this rifle to tinker with and have no desire to load ammo for it. Loaded ammo is $16-$18 a box and with an 18" barrel AR, it's perfectly fine with me like it is.
Thanks to Jay at NTRP for the Range Officers Appreciation Range Day. It was a good opportunity to stretch this little rifle out.

Re: 6.5 Grendle 100 to 1000 yards

I shot my 19.5" 6.5 grendel yesterday. I was not overly pleased with the ES and SD of the factory hornady 123 amax ammo. We only fired 5-6 through the chrono, but it ranged from 2475 to 2540 or so (my 308 hand loads had a sub 20fps ES). I picked 2510 based on the numbers and plugged it into the Atrag software. The data was spot on out to 750 and luckily there was almost no wind so we really got good results on the steel targets without fighting the wind.

I was quite impressed with it out to those distances and wish we had more time to spend at 1000. I now want to do some hand loading to work on consistency of the ammo.

thats the speeds I was getting out of my 20 in satern barrel with hornady factory loads to. the load I use right now is 29gr 2520 powder im getting 2550-2580, 30 isnt to bad compaired to the 65 of factory. im going to test a load with the 8208xbr next time around im hoping to get them loaded this week and hit the range. lets hope I can get my crono running when im there next time it was having fits when I was there this weekend working on loads for my 22-250.

Re: 6.5 Grendle 100 to 1000 yards

I have owned 4 different Grendels, and have narrowed the group down to the current 2 of them. I have been consistently impressed at how this little cartridge performs at distance. It is vastly superior to the 5.56 rounds, and remains supersonic long after my 7.62x51's have gone transonic.

I don't really try to stretch the little cartridge out too far as I also have a 260 Remington for longer distances. I think my Exbal program is off though...it shows that my 260 load using the 123 grain scenar bullets that start out at 2952 fps, are still going 1006 FPS at 1950 yards. I seriously doubt that the bullet would remain supersonic that far out...I would be impressed if it could hit 1750 and still be supersonic.
