6.5 PRC and RL-16?

It can be used in a 6.5 PRC, but it's a pretty fast burning powder for this magnum cartridge and can't fill the case much beyond 90% case capacity without running into pressure issues. There's several other RL powder that are better, IMHO . . . like anything from 19 and above.

If you're loading 120-130gr powders, run it. Most 300wsm benchest shooters are loading with 16/4350 due to shorter preasure curve/long barrel accuracy trend. They run LONG barrels so still get the high velocity. Rl23/rl26 are better suited for the prc with 140gr bullets. H4831sc, 7828, 7977, H1000, N565, anything in the medium/medium-slow burn rate work well. If you're loading 147-156gr bullets, you definitely want to run slow magnum powders.

Very useful info. I appreciate it. I have loaded RL-16 for 6.5 CM 130gr hybrids and for 6mm CM 105 hybrids and been very happy with the results, but will be getting a 6.5 PRC which is why I ask. I’ll probably shoot 140 ELD-M and 147’s. We’ll have to see. Anyone with a favorite 6.5PRC load who would care to share, input is welcome. I have searched the hide but not found a lot…. Perhaps I need to improve my search terms.

RL-26 has given me the most consistent results for 140 gr. and 153 gr. bullets. SD for the 140's is 5.2, for the 153's it's 3.3. Just an aside, but I'm using BR-2 primers and groups are averaging 1/4 to 1/3 MOA.
