Finally got to play and run some test loads, No RL26, H1000 or Retumbo to be found, so i figured i would burn the 7828 i have on hand, Mainly looking to hunt deer and maybe an Elk with in 350 yards or so, so i dont think i need to eek every ounce of velocity out of it at this point. Starting loads were 49.7 grains and worked up to 54.7. Mostly 3 shot groups with each, and did get chrono data, 140 grain Nosler CC. Surprisingly their was no horizontal change though all of the loads, Vertical had a slight change from starting load to 51.2, impacts got slightly lower, about 1/8 inch per group, 51.2 up to 54.7, pretty much shot the same group at 100 yards, they did open up and close in slightly though the groups. Biggest group was .93. had 3 groups that were under .5. was shooting off a crappy table and sitting on a bucket. Starting VEL was 2550 and went up to 2813. Had no pressure issues, and didnt run up to max load yet.

Going to run some Berger 156 EOL in it next and see what it will do with better projectiles. will start low with powder charge and work back up. Rifle is a C Arms Traverse. Loving it so far!! Recoil is light, the break is loud though.

Just thought i would share as i have found no info on the 7828 with the PRC. If the 156s do not work out i have some 143s eld to try out!

Hodgdon only list IMR-8133 and 7977
along with Retumbo and H 1000 . Ive also seen RL-26, from the looks of it IMR-7828 may be just a little to fast for this application

Hornady Has load data for H4831, RL 22, 23, 25, 26, IMR7828, Norma MR5, H100, Retumbo, Magnum and IMR4831. It may be a bit fast, slower then 4831 and RL25. Will see how it dose.

The pressure ceiling should be around 57.8gr. I have quite a bit of room. What length barrel?

Shot 12 loads today at 300 with the 156. Started at 50.4 and worked up to 52.6. No pressure signs. Loads 50.4, 50.6 and 50.8 were in a 1.044 inch group on my zero, loads 51-52.6 were in a group 1.6 inches higher measuring 1.32, #7 and #12 were pulled out of measurement, they were called flyers hit left. Entire group with the flyers was 3.146, I kinda assumed this would show more Vertical spread, but once i got passed 50.8, their was none with the exception of shot 9, it was .6 above #10 and 11. Did not get any Chrono data as i did not want anything on the barrel. Have a V3 magneto speed.

Well this adventure is done for now, Ran about 200 rounds though it and settled on 56.8 grains of RL26. Best groups at 100 were with the 7828 with all 3 bullets tested, 140 nosler CC, 143 ELDx and the berger 156 EOL. Velocity was lacking for sure though. Final load with 156 EOL and RL26 is running .6-.7 at 100, shoot really good at 200 and 300 though, about .4 moa. .8 groups at 200 and 1.2 ish at 300. Pretty unbelievable for me. All ready to hunt, now i just need to find a nice buck and give him a bang!!!!
