Okay guys...Not that I have heard of yet...but...
I did just toast my muzzle break on my Ruger Hawkeye 6.5 PRC! I ended up spending 7 boxes of Hornady ammo to determine why all of the sudden I happened to catch several batches of way under speed rounds!! By nearly 200 FPS!
Hornady was even stumped and asked me to send the remaining rounds back to them for analysis!
So as I was cleaning my rifle this morning...I noticed an odd thick black sooty type material on the holes of the Ruger Hybrid Muzzle Break. Upon taking it off I discovered the internal components were "toast"!! Crumbling.
I am now sure the problem was not the ammo!! And, I had a hard time imagining it was, given the sudden..ness of the change! And...the fact that if the batch was that bad Hornady would have surely known it!
The rifle has been extremely accurate all the way to 1100 yards at my range. Then it wasn't. Falling short 10 to 20 yards all of the sudden.
I'll be testing it with the Magneto Chrono again tomorrow without the muzzle break.
It looks like this muzzle break survived maybe 600 to 700 shots.
So.....**Is that normal??
I'll be talking to a Ruger tech tomorrow also!
I love Ruger and Hornady. Hopefully a new MB will put me back "on target"!
