6.5mm 142gr HPBT MK with 1-9 twist?

Re: 6.5mm 142gr HPBT MK with 1-9 twist?

the 142s diddn't shoot too well in my .264 Sendero (1:9"), but 140 SMKs did. some other guys said the 142 worked for them, tho, so i guess you'd have to try.

when i order 6.5 barrels, i order 1:8" or 1:8.5" twist.

The 142 SMK was giving me fits but I'm wondering if it was my RP brass. I got a sinclair neck turner and an expander and I cut some donuts out so I'll give them another shot.

I also have some Lapua brass on the way from PV and I'll turn them into .260 brass to see if I will have less variation.

About the only thing I didn't do with the RP brass is weight sort. I've trimmed, neck turned, PP uniformed, FH deburred, Neck sized, FL sized.

Re: 6.5mm 142gr HPBT MK with 1-9 twist?

I'll say this. If it doesn't, the 140SMK very likely will, and out of a 30" barrel, will have no problems at 1000yd.

Before the 142 and other VLD-sorta-projos came out, it was one of the 6.5 'Gold Standard' rounds. Nothing has changed to make it any less effective, it's simply been surpassed by newer, slicker projos. I found it to be an absolutely solid LR performer out of an M96 Swede, which has very nearly the same config as your barrel

So even if the 142 doesn't work, you've really lost little or nothing. A 140SMK out of a 30" 1:9" barrel is still a significant force to be reckoned with.
