I am considering building an SPR-type rifle in 6.5mm Grendel. Leaning towards 18" in length. I'm just not sure who's barrel to get. Any suggestions?

I am intending to use this in a precision rifle class next year and while I don't think we'll be shooting over 400yds, it seems like as good an excuse as any for this build.

Best option right now unless you want a custom barrel is Alexander arms barrels..

$320 for the barrel and bolt.

I just built a 16inch gun I am running suppressed I am taking to a long range class next year.. should get close to hitting 1kyds with that set-up.

Call Scott at Specialized Dynamics, I just ordered an upper from him, but you can get just barrels also. Scott had barrels in the $300-400 range if I recall. Great guy to talk to:

Also Mark Gordon is also a SH sponsor and does a killer 6.5 at Short Action Customs. http://shortactioncustoms.com/

Rainier Arms has Sabre chrome lined 18" barrels with bolt, but they are $550

You can also get barrels direct from Saturn and Les Baer. I heard back from Les via email, but you'll have to call Satern. Both great options, but a little more expensive.

Check Midway too, I think they have AR-Stoner barrels which can be hit or miss.

Re: 6.5mm SPR Barrel options?

I thought Sabre was gone from that whole lawsuit thing?

How are the Specialized Dynamics barrels accuracy wise?

AR Performance is comming out with exactly what you seem to be looking for. I would check them out. I have no personal experience with them, I have only read about them, and they do get good reviews.

Sabre is gone.. but leftover stock remains I would guess. Grab them while you can if it's what ya hanker for.

For more on Specialized Dynamics stuff check over at Predator Master Forums (http://www.predatormastersforums.com/forums). I think you will be very happy with the reviews of his builds. Hence why I decided to work with him on this particular build.

My barrel(416 stainless) and bolt combos are $345 for the 6.5(.264lbc chamber)</div></div>

Barrel length(s)? Gas system length(s)? Barrel profile(s)? Cut or button?

Thanks

Re: 6.5mm SPR Barrel options?

Drifter,
barrel length is whatever you want(SPR's are generally 18 or 20)

gas system length 16-18 are mid's and 20 and up are rifle length

Profile SPR profile, SPR profile these are button rifled, 416 stainless. M4 feed ramps.
