Re: 6.5mm06

That's a beautiful rifle! Tell us about its performance, what type of twist is the barrel, MV, what is the heaviest bullet you shoot, group sizes etc???? The reason I ask I want to built two “bucket list” rifles. One of them will be a .260 Remington on a Mauser 98 action. Again BRAVO ZULU for sharing pictures of such a beautiful rifle. Your wife’s .243 is also a premier rig also!!!

Re: 6.5mm06

the barrel is a shilen select match 1:9 twist. Yes it is as long as it looks 30" finished. I wanted to keep it as long as possible to get more muzzle velocity without loading it too hot. Barrel life is always an issue with this caliber.
I haven't fired this rifle since before i went back to graduate school in 2002 (right after i finished it). i just took it out and snapped a few pics when a recent conversation about this caliber came up.
I looked at my log book and I have a total of 25 rounds down the pipe. Twenty round break in and a five shot group at 500 yards that measured 3.65 inches.
The double set trigger from Brownell's is really slick. After pulling the rear trigger, the front breaks at 5 1/2 ounces, well worth the money.
I too have always had a sweet spot for mausers, my dad still hunts with a .270 that he built on a mauser action 20 years ago. He also has a .30 Gibbs that is an absolute tack driver...I guess its in my blood
