6.5X06 A Square

Re: 6.5X06 A Square

"Originated in the 1920's as a wildcat, formed by necking down the 30-06 from .308" to .264". The 6.5-06 was standardized with SAAMI by A-Square in 1997."

As far as a I know, is is just the .30-06 necked down, keeping the same shoulder angle. So exactly the same as 6.5-'06, but A-Square sent it in to SAMMI to have it standardized and a max psi assigned, just like Remington did to the 6.5-308 to have it become .260 Remington. So no real operational advantage over the wildcat 6.5-06, except you are now shooting a standardized round with assigned psi limits, not a wildcat?

Of course, someone may correct me on this, I don't shoot it.

Re: 6.5X06 A Square

The standard 6.5-06 both myself and Ply1951Guy load for.

The A-square uses an 18* shoulder angle
The standard uses the standard 17*45' shoulder angle (if memory serves right).

It's just enough different to be named "A-square"

There are no ballistic advantages or disadvantages.

I have a case drawing in the A-Square manual at home, I'll try to remember to snag a screenshot for you.

The 28" 8tw barrel that I shot out last summer ran the 140 Berger VLD's at 3200fps but I had the best repeatability at 3150fps.

To get 31450-3200 FPS with std 6.5-06 and the 140’s what powder were you using?
