6.5X47, 22" or 24" Barrel

I'm building a 6.5X47 Lapua, I have a Rock Creek 5R M-24/M-40 contoured 1:8 twist barrel. I want to use 130, 140 VLD's but I don't know what to run the finished barrel at, 22" or 24"? Any thoughts?

I would run a 24" but that's just me. I think you will struggle to get 2900 fps w/a 24" bbl let alone a 22".

I really don't want to push the bullets that hard, if I can get 2750-2800 with a 130, or 2650-2700 with a 140 I would be happy! The primary use is Tac rifles matches out to a 1000, I'm replacing my .308.

If your really can't decide between 22" or 24" barrel, then order one 23" long. Problem solved.....

You can't go wrong with 24" in that caliber even if you don't want to push them hard.

mine is being built now and I went 24". Even threw a thruster brake on it. Should kick like a .22!

I'd go with a 24", if it is too much it can always be cut down later.

I'd personally go with 27". slower burning powder with heavier boolits and a longer barrel life
