6.8 SPC in an AI mag?

Re: 6.8 SPC in an AI mag?

I'm purchasing a 6.8SPC Rem 700 action, with the follower and mag box. I'm having it chambered in 338 Spectre. Ideally, it would go in an AICS. But I just don't think I can make it work in an AI mag. The 338 Spectre has a smaller case diameter than a 308, and larger than a 223. I don't think it will feed in an AICS mag and I think I'm better off not wasting my money on an AICS when I have the bottom metal for a BDL version. I could just as well get a Manners or McM and use the BDL bottom metal and know I'm GTG.

I figure I have a better chance of someone putting a 6.8SPC in a AICS before than someone putting a 338 Spectre in an AICS. If someone has, and it worked, that would lend credence to the idea that I could make it work with the 338 Spectre.

Re: 6.8 SPC in an AI mag?

Yes, Mikes Guns, Sales and Service in Aransas Pass Tx (also known as Jet supressors) has built a couple of 6.8 bolt guns and they told me they were running the .308 AICS mags.

Mike has his own bottom metal design that is very nice as well as a really nice chassis system.

When funds permit, I plan on having Mike build a 6.8 precision rifle for me. I am just going with the BDL floorplate though.

Re: 6.8 SPC in an AI mag?

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up. You don't happen to know if they modified the mags at all, do you?

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they can tell me.

Re: 6.8 SPC in an AI mag?

Don't belive they modified them.

Don't call before 10:00 a.m. central.

Their phone service (verizon) frequently craps out on them.
If you ever go to Aransas Pass, you'll understand.

Mike and Deborah are good people.
