I shot my 16" POF .223 today at 730 yards for fun. My target was 12"x12" gong, held 1 moa for windage and hit it just about every time. I was shooting off a pickup bed, standing up. I was using Black Hills red box 60 grain V-MAX's.

According to JBM, the bullets should have been traveling around 950 fps. I checked the gong and it appears all the bullets hit point first. I guess they passed through the trans-sonic zone ok. Seemed to still have a good bit of energy that far out, also.

I read somewhere that a 62 gr steel core could penetrate a issue steel pot at 900 meters. Ever try to drill a hole in one of those things they are plenty tough.Don't even ask why one would drill one L.O.L.Lets just say that some of my custom Harlry projects are theme projects for rich yuppys! Don'y judge Bullets and weapons cost and it pays the bills.

I held 24 MOA on the nightforce reticle. JBM puts the correct hold for my conditions at 24.5. My dope sheet didn't even go to 730, I just wanted to see how it would do.

No, it was getting close to dusk, only a slight breeze.

I shoot the Hornady TAP 60 gr. WHich is loaded with the v-max bullet. I have not shot it past 565, but was happily surprised with how well the little bullet did at that distance. The only place I have access to with that king of range only has berms at 565 and 1K. So it is really hard to see what your doing wrong between those distances. I do want to see the limits of the round/gun/me.

    Good shooting.

We ran the 60 grain V-max in the Tiger Valley Team match a year or two ago. They shot fine at 600 yards. But at 800 yards, they were key-holing. We had several hits on target, but they didn't give us points for it, since the bullet wasn't "controlled". I was running them fairly slow with AA2230 out of my 16" 1:9 twist. I am now using TAC, and they are pushing another 100 fps faster. They shoot great!
