6BR based cartridge in DTA

Re: 6BR based cartridge in DTA

I dinked around with the 6BR in repeater. Long story short, I ended up with a lot of frustration. I was using a DBM, but there is a link over on www.6mmbr.com that shows how to take a 308 bottom metal and a 223 bottom metal and make a 6BR bottom metal combining them.

There are guys that have had better success than me. I lost interest and patience. There are rumors of being able to modify the new AI 223 mag and making it work. But then, you are stuck modifying AI mags. And if you mess one up, into the trash it goes.

The 6BR is my favorite cartridge. But, its straight case and sharp shoulder make for a tough round to feed reliably from a repeater. The high BC, low drag, heavy match grade projectiles available in the caliber are numerous. Plus the top shelf brass is hard to beat.

Its just tricky to make it feed right. Maybe the DTA mags could be modified to make a reliable feeding 6BR. I don't know.

I do know that if I was doing it, I wouldn't do it in 6 Dasher unless you don't mind all the work that goes into making the brass. I quit shooting 6PPC for that reason. Hours of brass prep for an hour of shooting just wasn't worth it. And I wasn't going to build a mule gun just to fire form brass. Resizing necks, making the false shoulder, fireforming (either using projectiles or cream of wheat), resizing, turning necks to get rid of the doughnut, and finally getting to shoot a Dasher just isn't worth it to me. A no turn neck 6BR, sure. But not the Dasher.

Just my .02. If you do make it work, please post your results here. I'd love to see it.

Re: 6BR based cartridge in DTA

I tried feeding a few rounds without a barrel in my DTA and it feed them from the mag just fine, but I wasn't sure if the feeding problems would start when the barrel was installed.
