Hello fellas! I'm starting on a new build and wanted to get some feedback on it. I know there are some guys running the 6mmAR and the Turbo 40 so I figured I get could get some good info. I'm building this one off of a Sako AI. I've talked to Fred at Sabreco and we're gonna do a Krieger stainless tube with a custom contour. This rifle will mainly be a coyote rifle that might be used on the occasional mule deer or antelope. I know most guys are running the 105s and the 107s but I'm wanting to stay with hunting/varmint bullets 100gr and under, maybe the 95gr bergers. Fred suggested the 1/8" twist but I may go with the 1/8.5" twist just to be safe with the lighter varmint bullets(75 &87 gr v-maxs). Is anybody hunting with their's? Any advice? I think it'll put the dirty hurt on the dogs!!!

Re: 6mm AR build

The 6mm AR and Turbo were designed to fit into an AR form factor. It's a great round and massive improvement over a 223REM. But, if you are running a bolt action, you have many many choices and don't necessarily need to run the 6mm AR. 6XC, 6BR, 243WIN, these would all be great choices with better ballistics that the 6mm AR. Nothing wrong with your choice, just trying to point out other choices you may have overlooked.

A 1:8 is great for 107gr and below. Go with a 1:7.5 if you think you will ever try a 115gr DTAC or similar.

Re: 6mm AR build

Actually I don't have too many options. The Sako AI is the vixen length action- a micro length action. Plus, the one that I have has a ppc bolt face. I thought about just doin the 6.5 Grendel conversion, but to me the 6.5 crosses the threshold between varmint to big game. With all the good 6mm bullets from varmint to high BC bullets and good lapua brass it just seems perfect. I just think it'll be a cool, accurate, tiny little coyote thumper that could reach out there if I have to and not everybody has one!!!! I do think I am going to go with a 1:8 just in case I run the 105's occasionally. Thanks!!!
