I have a 6ARC (gas) that I have developed a decent load for using 108gr Hornady bullets. I am intentionally not putting a lot of details because I want the conversation to focus on bullet selection.

Assuming I can make it shoot decent groups, what would the practical differences be if I used a 105 or 103 grain bullet instead? I mean specifically at ranges 1k ish or beyond. At those ranges the sole purpose is target shooting.

If there are other noteable benefits (say like terminal performance at 300 yards and in) I would be interested to hear.

While I am speaking of Hornady bullets only, if there are other options please let me know and include those in the discussion. For example I am interested in trying the Berger 109 but they are generally hard to get and sell at a premium.

I am interested in testing and toying with various bullets in the 100+ grain weight category but I want to narrow down the list to a few options before I start to buy stuff. Ideally I will narrow it down to maybe 4 or 5 options (max) before I really start to work on loads.

Creedmoor sports has sale on bergers right now. I just grabbed some of the 109’s for 6 arc gas gun loads.

6 ARC can shoot 1k. Bullet selection isnt going to be your biggest limiting factor, velocity will be. Losing anywhere from 200-500 fps vs other rounds is a really big deal at distances beyond 600 yards. Im just putting out number for 6 ARC, vs 6 GT, vs 6 CM.

That being said? I would feel more than comfortable shooting the 108 ELD, 107 SMK, 105 and 109 Bergers. The 107 SMK is actually a quite decent bullet, and honestly just only just a little bit less accurate than the Bergers I've found. The Hornady 105 Aeromatch could also be added, but I have not tested any of these, so I cant speak to how good it is even though its supposed to be a clone of the 105 Berger. I have a 1000 on the shelf for testing, just havent got there yet.

My testing has been done on 6 CM (bolt) and 6 Grendel (gas). In this case my Grendel is about a 100fps faster than the ARC, but gives a good idea on what does or doesnt work. Ive found that I have no issues out to 600 yards with the Grendel, but beyond that, you are really at the mercy of the wind no matter what bullet you are using.
