Anyone out there running straight 6x48 screws for their optic mount?

This is my first rifle where I’ve had only four 6x48 screws holding my rail, rings, and optic on. This particular rifle has no ability to use the rails built in recoil lug.

Am I being a wuss over this or am I asking for trouble on a field gun?

What are my options to remedy this? 6lb no optics 308 and 6.5 creedmoor for what it’s worth.

You'll be fine. Use blue loctite on the base screws. I used an egw base that didn't have a recoil lug for years without issue.

I run Talley rings on my Tikkas without recoil lugs and they hold up just fine.

Light high recoil rifle with heavy scope might merit oversize base screws.
I would be concerned with, say, a 10 lb 300 win mag with a Razor Gen II and #6 base screws.
As others have said, properly installed and fixed (Loctited) #6 base screws may suffice in applications less extreme than the one described above.
Degrease the threads (male and female), use blue (removable) Loctite, and properly tighten the screws, then keep an eye on it.
