I have the chance of a Custom made rifle (very nice) but its chambered in 7×64 . This is a popular hunting caliber here. Has this caliber the accuracy and velocity to shoot at the 800mtr range ??

Re: 7×64 caliber range rifle

I would say it has plenty to get to 800m. It is a ballistic twin of the 280 with a little extra case capacity (if memory serves).

depending on the twist of the rifling you may have to use the 162gr Amax, but it will have the Ballistic coef. to get you to 800m and prabably way more. If it has a 9 or better twist then the 180gr all the way.

Re: 7×64 caliber range rifle

Yes,

one can reach 900 m/s with 140 grain bullets, there are some really nice ones for match shooting,

cal is trailing the 7 mm Rem mag by about 40-50 m/s and that means that if the shooter and rifle is up for it, 800 meters and precion are no worries.

BTW- one can use 30-06 cases and have them go throught the FZ- die ones and then shoot them, use enough lube.

Best regards Chris

Re: 7×64 caliber range rifle

its a good looking rig, as long as the twist rate is not over 10 you will be good to go for the longer high BC pills.

Hornady 162gr
Berger 168gr
Sierra 175gr
I did not see a rate of twist on that page, but I dont speak french either.

Re: 7×64 caliber range rifle

Check the chamber!!

I love the 7x64- it is one of the classic African plainsgame rounds, but by CIP the throat dimensions make it almost impossible to get good accuracy with short bullets, anything under 156grn etc. With a modern 'throat' it would be one sweet round, but I am looking at a .280 rem for a long range plains game round simply because I can reliably get good accuracy with 140grn TTSX's in a wide variety of 280's and only some 7x64's.
