7.62x39 out of an AICS magazine?

Has anyone ever tried to shoot a 7.62x39 out of an AICS magazine? What kind of modification is required?

They are coming out with a .223 magazine that may work great if the standard one does feed well... I haven't looked into much more of the details on it, but it is due out any time now. I would think this size mag would be perfect for the 7.62x39 and other similar cases with some minor mods to the lips perhaps.

Not a subsonic project, just a long-life caliber for use in a short-range rifle (targets only).

I will check out the 223 mags! Thanks for the tip.

If you are not set on using AICS mags (or bottom metal that takes AICS mags) you may want to look into the Seekins .223 DBM, Im pretty sure you can feed x39 out of it.

I have always thought a 6mm in one of those cases woud make a great coyote/target round. I may try it one of these days. Lee

I don't have the rifle or mags yet, so I can not try it out myself.

The 6mm version is what led to the 6PPC

The origin of the 6PPC is the 5.6x39 which comes from the 7.62x39. Lapua makes the 220Russian which is a modern day copy of the 5.6x39 (large primer).
