If you want to hunt something weighing 800-1,000 pounds at 1,000 yards, then the 338 is your ticket.
I shoot 338LM and 338LM Improved with 300 grain SMK and Lapua. Like them a lot. But the cost is nearly double that of the 7WSM, and in virtually every category my 7WSM out shoots (flatter trajectory) the 338 out to about 1,500-1,800 yards.

Jeff,
How many rounds on average where you getting out of those 3 barrels before you noticed a accuracy decrease? We're any of them melonited? I'm very curious about this. I love my 7wsm and may eventually move to that caliber for both hunting and matches. </div></div>
I am also interested in barrel life, and are you running long or short action?
