for hunting rounds yes. Not exactly for LR use though.

I love the 7WSM.

Re: 7 WSM

I think he means you can buy hunting rounds anywhere, but not match ammo for LR use. I've never seen any factory 7WSM match rounds either though, but I'll admit I don't get out much.

Re: 7 WSM

How about HSM trophy gold. They make hunting rounds with Berger bullets. It's a hunting bullet, but match quality.

IMO the only way to go is to reload for the 7 wsm. It is by far my favorite caliber.

I've never seen that on the shelf, but like I said I don't get out much. Each chambering whether 7WSM or 7RM has their own fan club. I don't find reloading of belted cases a problem and I can always find brass at the local sportsmans warehouse for the RM. I did get one of those belted case body dies with the collet if there is bulge at the belt. It's pretty slick drop the case down the top and if it doesnt seat, then send it up through the bottom.

Some people like the short action, but I don't mind a long action and would actually make a 7WSM on a long action if I did build one just to seat the VLD's and Amax's long.

One chambering that I'm still intrigued by is the 338 wsm, but not sure that the 338 RCM didn't fill that notch.

I'm trying to keep the caliber choice to a minimum in the safe. So far I have the standard .308, 30-06, 7mm RM (building), 338-06 (building) and I'm toying with the idea of a smaller caliber for varmints like a 243, 6mm-06, or something in 6.5.

That is precisely my point. You can buy hunting rounds for either the 7wsm or the 7mmRem Mag just about anywhere. But your not going to find a 162amax loaded round, or a HSM 168 Berger loaded round for sale in Wal-Mart in Hickville, Anywhere.

Re: 7 WSM

You wont be able to find 7wsm either hunting or match at any ol' wally world, but there are good chamberings available to you if you dont reload.

I pick up hunting loads for mine without too much of a search.

As for match ammo, this afternoon at about 430pm, 200 rounds of factory loaded 7wsm match ammo showed up on my doorstep from the boys at CorBon. Its loaded with berger 180gr VLDs and trust me, they shoot just fine. Are they as cheap as rolling your own? Hell no, but they are available. Just order ahead of time.

I love my 7wsm, but as for being a do-all chambering, probably not. I use it as a long range match gun, plus occasional duty for heavier game. My 308 still gets the most use. The 7 is more expensive to shoot, eats barrels faster, and isnt needed for most shooting. It is a hammer, though.
