Gunsmithing 700 Long Action to 'Mid Action' mod

Is there such a conversion?
Limiting bolt travel, feeding. Mid size stuff like 284, 7-08?

Nothing common. It's physically possible to cut and weld the receiver, bolt, etc. But not very practical. Also opens up to a host of issues with stocks, bottom metal, magazines etc...

Might as well go full custom from the get go... or just get a long action.

I'm pretty sure it can be done, but why? Modify the bolt stop, put a spacer in the rear of the mag box and modify the follower and possibly the spring. At least that the route I'd be looking at, if I really thought it was a concern.

I thought the Army built some of there tactical rifles in .308 on long actions.

I don not recall reading this anywhere, but have heard scuttlebutt.

Yes, the original M24 as contracted by the Army was a long action.
